While the new Explorer was undergoing development, we added Feedback Fish which enabled us to get quick bug reports, immediate feedback, and general ideas from our users, and we found it incredibly helpful in prioritizing what was important to our users. While exploring coverage and specific Hotspots on the Network, questions often come up around the best placement scenarios, managing Hotspot rewards, Hotspot online status, chatting with other Hotspot owners, and a variety of other topics about the Network. While this used to be the work of Hotspots, the capabilities of the hardware were insufficient to accommodate the increased size of the Network and so Validators were introduced. Validators are a new type of participant on the Helium Network, taking over the work of the Consensus group to validate transactions in blocks. We took this opportunity to put mobile first, so the browsing experience on a small form factor was just as good as our desktop experience.
